Strengthening partnerships for data innovation and global collaboration
Statistics Botswana was recently honoured to host Botswana’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Professor Boga Thura Manatsha, who paid a courtesy call on the Statistician General, Dr Khaufelo Raymond Lekobane.
The engagement highlighted Statistics Botswana’s strategic transformation into a modern, data-driven institution, with a strong focus on innovation, digitalisation, and the use of emerging data sources such as Mobile Phone Data to enhance official statistics.
Discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration with Japan in areas including the establishment of a Data Innovation Lab, capacity building in data science and AI, digital infrastructure development, and institutional partnerships with the Statistics Bureau of Japan.
This courtesy call marks an important step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation and leveraging data for smarter decisions and sustainable development.
