VISION 2036

VISION 2036; Prosperity for all

The need for Botswana to intentionally define and manage its path to ‘Prosperity for All’, as well to adjusts to the rapidly changing global economy and social order was first noticed in 1966 following which the President then, sent a Presidential Task Group to go around the country doing consultations on how Botswana could achieve that. This ended in the vision 2016 which had 7 pillars. Developments were then aligned to meet these 7 pillars which landed the country to where it is now. Now that vision 2016 has elapsed, with so many visible developments, it is not yet over as the country still has room for improvement.

As it is important for Batswana to articulate their aspirations for the kind of society they would like Botswana to be by the year 2036 which is 20 more years to come, another Presidential task team was therefore elected prior to the elapse of vision 2016 to go and do more consultations on further developments. The team then came up with 4 pillars for 2036. This Vision and its complementary National Transformation Strategy will therefore act as a compass that directs the nation to the ultimate goals, and will also help in weighing competing alternatives and make strategic choices, prioritize and manage tradeoffs.
Botswana’s vision of 2036 also aligns with the global agenda for sustainable development and the principles of Africa agenda 2063, to ensure that the country pursue the national aspirations in a way that enables Botswana to meet the global and regional goals.
