Education

Education data covers all levels of education, notably, preprimary, primary, secondary, technical & vocational, and tertiary institutions. The data is used for program development, policy formulation, and monitoring and evaluation of education programs and policies for the entire education sector. The data is also used as evidence on the country’s progress towards meeting national and international obligations on provision of education at different levels.

Education statistics are compiled using data obtained through administrative processes of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development and supplemented by data obtained through household based surveys as well as Population and Housing Census data.

Indicators produced include:

  • Literacy Rates
  • Access indicators: Enrolment rates (Gross & Net Rates, Age Specific Enrolment Rate), Apparent Intake Rates, Net Intake rates, participation rates,
  • Internal Efficiency Indicators: Transition Rates Repetition Rates, Re-Entrants, 
Dropout Rates, Survival Rates
  • Quality Indicators: Pupil/teacher ratio, class size, Pupil/text book 
ratio, Percentage of Trained Teachers, Graduation rates. Teaching and Learning Resources
  • Teacher Attrition Rates
  • Disability: Percentage of Enrolment in Special Education Units, Proportion of Students with Special Education Needs, SEN Enrolment with their Types of Impairment
